For those people attempting to increase their HGH a dosage between 3 – 18 grams daily has proven successful.  For those trying to treat anxiety or fight insomnia a dosage of 500mg to 1000mg is recommended. When taking GABA to help with insomnia it is best to take it right before sleep.
How Does GABA Work?
GABA plays a role in regulating neuron excitability throughout the entire central nervous system. GABA works as an inhibitory neurotransmitter. Other neurotransmitters communicate with synapses in the brain by fitting into certain receptors and “firing” an electrical impulse that is then interpreted by the brain. GABA does the opposite; it fits into certain receptors to block other neurotransmitters from firing off their impulses. This inhibitory neurotransmitter, along with many others, is very important for regulating the brain. Without GABA certain nerves would fire too often. This can lead to anxiety disorders including panic attacks, and seizures. 
Safety and Side Effects of GABA
The most common side effects people experience are itching and tingling sensations. Other people have reported an increase in heart-rate and heavy breathing. In rare cases nausea has also been reported. Long-term effects from prolonged use of GABA supplements are not known. There are no known drug interactions.
